Scott has worked with many different non-profits over the last 10 years discovering that he enjoys the variety as well as the unique challenges each one presents. He values the opportunity to streamline processes and utilize technology to increase efficiency. He got his start working for non-profits at John Muir Health in the accounting department. He then moved to a position in public accounting that had the feel of fiscal sponsorship, where he worked as an outsourced controller. This work inspired him to devote more time to non-profits and earn his CPA license.
His first week at Community Initiatives was highlighted by their annual open house. Scott saw how appreciative the fiscally sponsored projects are and their passion for the impact they have on their communities. He was also impressed with how efficiently the office moved to working remotely overnight when the pandemic hit, in particular how everyone worked together to make the adjustment successful.
Scott grew up in Tulare, CA and attended California State University, Sacramento where he earned a degree in marketing and management, and while earning his MBA made the decision to pursue accounting. Both he and his brother then moved to Napa where they worked preparing taxes for a few years before he moved to the East Bay where he married his wife.
When he’s not in the office, he enjoys traveling abroad, which was put on pause when he started a family. He looks forward to the day he can take his family on adventures abroad. In the meantime, he enjoys spending time with his kids, hiking and being outdoors. He also enjoys homebrewing , particularly the challenge of perfecting IPAs, and his British father-in-law’s favorite English-style bitters.
