Scott has worked with a few different non-profits over the last 10 years and enjoys the variety as well as the unique challenges each one presents. He values the opportunity to streamline processes and utilize technology to increase efficiency. He got his start working for nonprofits at John Muir Health, working in the accounting department for their foundation. This work inspired him to devote more time to nonprofits. He then moved to a position that had the feel of fiscal sponsorship at BPM, where he worked as an outsourced controller.
His first week at Community Initiatives was highlighted by their annual open house. Scott saw how appreciative the variety of fiscally sponsored projects are and their excitement for the impact they have on their communities. He was also impressed with how efficiently the office moved from working remotely overnight when the pandemic hit, in particular how everyone worked together to make the adjustment successful.
Scott grew up in Tulare, CA and attended California State University, Sacramento for both his undergraduate and graduate work. He focused on marketing and management and earned an MBA as he worked to become a CPA. Both he and his brother then moved to Napa where they worked preparing taxes for a few years before he moved to the East Bay and married his wife.
When he’s not in the office, he enjoys traveling abroad, something that had been put on pause once he started his family. He looks forward to his COVID-19 delayed birthday trip to Italy. In the meantime, he enjoys spending time with his kids, hiking and being outdoors. He also enjoys homebrewing and favors IPAs and stouts, and the challenge of perfecting his British father-in-law’s favorite English-style bitters.
