Executive Assistant & Board Liaison
Marisa joined Community Initiatives because she values its mission, which supports fiscally sponsored projects in the Bay Area and beyond so they can focus on the important work and the people their work impacts. She loves that in her position she supports both the CEO and the Board of Directors as well as most of the team in a variety of ways to fulfill their core values of empowerment, trust, teamwork, integrity, and empathy.
Originally from Houston, TX, she spent time both there and in Singapore while growing up. She moved to Medford, MA to attend Tufts University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. Her post graduation work brought her to the Bay Area when she took a job arranging culinary apprenticeships for underserved youth for a small nonprofit in West Oakland.
Marisa cares deeply about providing local, sustainable, nutritious food to her friends and communities. She’s passionate about supporting her husband’s work and handles his farm’s administrative work. She takes great pride in being part of a small family farm. In her free time, she gardens with her husband and plays with their two dogs and cat. She also participates in half marathons and runs around the Oakland/Berkeley area.
