Center for Engaged Scholarship

The Center for Engaged Scholarship is an organization created by and for social scientists who want the United States to be a more democratic, more egalitarian, and more environmentally sustainable society.    In the present polarized state of the nation’s politics, we plan to use our skills as researchers and teachers to challenge the bad ideas of the right-wing and to generate new ideas that can contribute to progressive change.   Our first initiative is a dissertation fellowship for social science Ph.D. students in the U.S. whose work is of high academic quality and that exemplifies the engaged scholarship that we seek to promote.

“Without Community Initiatives, California would not see the impact of hundreds of beneficial projects. They are an important part of our nonprofit landscape.”
