Gayle Sheehan Joins CI as Director of Program Services

Community Initiatives is thrilled to welcome Gayle Sheehan to our team as Director of Program Services. Gayle joins Community Initiatives after more than two decades with the Sierra Club, most recently as the Director of Compliance and Operations Strategy. While at the Sierra Club, she worked with volunteers and staff on compliance with tax and election law and on a range of nonprofit financial matters, including grant budgets and financial reports.

At Community Initiatives, Gayle will lead the team of program service specialists that are interacting with projects everyday. Projects will benefit from Gayle’s experience in developing and delivering trainings on tax and election law, nonprofit operations, accessing charitable funds, and developing program budgets. As disciplined creative thinker, Gayle understands the rules and works with people to figure out a responsible path forward.

“Gayle’s background uniquely suits the needs of our projects, and we are thrilled to have her as a part of the team,” said President and CEO Theresa Fay-Bustillos. “Of course, we owe a debt of gratitude to Prudy Kohler who stepped in as Interim Director of Program Services during our transition. The whole team has appreciated Prudy’s work to maintain continuity of services to our projects.”

“CI has such a diverse network of projects, I am excited to get to know each of them,” said Gayle. “Administration is a big burden in the non-profit sector, but I have long enjoyed providing operational support to causes. I am thrilled to join a dynamic and dedicated team that allows our fiscally sponsored projects do their most important work—serving communities across California.”

Welcome Gayle!
